Who thought Elf Bar could possibly improve upon the marked success of the Elf Bar Mate 500? Well, their latest model, the Elfa pod kit, does just that. Boasting a larger battery, an improved magnetic pod connection mechanism, and the same sleek shape as the ubiquitous Elf Bar 600 Disposable Vape, the Elfa pod kit defies all expectations.

Look, Shape & Feel
I received the Aurora Purple colour, which has a lovely indigo to violet gradient. The device looks and feels eerily similar to the disposables, though it’s certainly more sturdy overall.
The colour on the device is vibrant, with a matte finish that allows for a firm, slip-free grip. The mouthpiece is the same as the one on the Elf bar 600 disposable, which really evokes the feeling of a puff bar—minus the cost and some of the ecological impact, of course!
Elf Bar Elfa Pod Kit vs. Elfa Bar 600 Disposable
The only major differences between this device and the Elf Bar 600 disposable are the USB Type-C charging port, of course, plus the addition of the LED ring on the bottom, as opposed to the single small LED indicator light on the 600 disposable.
Aside from that, the device shares all the same qualities as the disposable, including a similar weight, shape, and general feel. In fact, the Elfa pod kit weighs only 3g more than the disposable, and measures only roughly half a centimetre taller. Otherwise, when held side by side, they’re nearly identical.
Battery & Performance
The internal 500mAh battery should last most vapers a full day before requiring a recharge via the USB Type-C port located on the bottom of the device. Unfortunately, a cable is not included with the kit—so if you don’t happen to have a spare cable lying around, you’ll have to purchase one separately. Thankfully, we stock a low-cost, high-quality USB Type-C Charging Cable designed specifically for vape batteries on our website.
The Elfa device comes pre-charged with an LED light ring around the base. It glows when charging and goes out once the battery is fully charged. The Elfa kit takes roughly 30 – 40mins to charge, depending on the cable and method you use.
The battery is designed to last up to 600 puffs per charge, which is about 100 more puffs than its predecessor. I’ve found that the battery lasts roughly the same length as the pod—or perhaps a bit longer. You can tell that the battery size was carefully calculated with the E-Liquid capacity in mind.
Overall, I’ve found the battery performance to be flawless, as with most Elf Bar devices.
Performance wise, you get what you ask for with this device. It delivers a stellar mouthful every time, with emphasis on discreet MTL vapour production. It honestly blows my mind how a vape that’s not for cloud chasing can deliver such a flavourful vapour.
Truthfully, I can’t slight the performance on this device one bit. I haven’t run into a single hiccup while using it; every piece of the device is carefully constructed with the utmost expertise.
Pre-Filled Pods
The Elfa device utilises pre-filled vape pods, meaning that there’s no messy maintenance required. You heard right: no refills, no coil changes, no nonsense. Instead, when your pod is empty, simply discard it and replace it with a new one. This is an excellent system for those looking for a low-maintenance vape.
The pods come pre-filled with 2ml of 20mg strength salt nic E-Liquid, which delivers a smoother throat hit and a quicker “nic fix” at higher strengths compared to traditional “freebase” nicotine-containing E-Liquids. In addition, thanks to the 20mg strength, each pod will outlast an entire pack of cigarettes, which is great news for current smokers and recent vaping converts.
The pods are fitted inside the device with a strong magnetic connection, slotting nicely into place when the pod is oriented correctly. When fitted, the mouthpiece sits perpendicular to the Elf Bar logo on the front of the device, so it always looks its very best while vaping.
The only downside I’ve found with the pods is that you can’t see how much E-Liquid you have left, and this can be a bit frustrating. Instead of the pod being filled with just E-Liquid, it contains a sponge that evenly distributes the E-Liquid to the coil—which is how the disposables are made, too. But whereas the disposables flash to signal that they’re empty, the Elfa doesn’t—so you’re forced to vape it until it tastes burnt, which takes away from the seamlessness of the device’s functionality.

Elf Bar Elfa vs. Elf Bar Mate 500
I’ve had the unique pleasure of owning both devices, and I’ve gotten to try all of the flavours for the Elf Bar Mate 500. In fact, I even authored an article on the best pod flavours in the range, titled Top 5 Best Elf Bar Mate 500 Flavours Ranked.
Durability
I’ve had a love-hate relationship with the Mate 500. The pods and flavours are absolutely stellar, just like the flavours we love from the disposable range, but I had some issues getting new pods to connect to the battery. Emphasis on new: once the pods were installed, it was smooth sailing.
Anyone who reads my reviews will know that I’m a terrible klutz—and unfortunately, the Mate 500 didn’t fare well when exposed to extreme conditions (my clumsiness). After one fall too steep, the device had immense trouble when installing new pods. From then on, any time I faced this issue, I had to perform some, uh, “percussive maintenance” to get it to work again.
Now, with the Elfa kit, I’m very pleased to say that I don’t believe this will be an issue. I find that the Elfa kit has a much sturdier build in that the pod is contained within the device, preventing anything from accidentally knocking the exposed part of the pod and disrupting the connection from the pins attached to the battery. This is a definite upgrade on Elf Bar’s part, and I’m so happy to see the improvement.
Coils
The biggest improvement between the two models, in my opinion, is the addition of mesh coils in the pre-filled pods.
For those who are unfamiliar with coil types, there are two main forms: standard and mesh. The amount of surface area on the coil determines the density of the flavour it produces. Standard coils are spiral-shaped and have a smaller surface area, while mesh coils are made of a netted material and therefore have a greater surface area overall. This means that mesh coils produce a denser flavour.
The original Mate 500 kit utilised pods with a dual coil system, which was designed to ensure lasting freshness. Still, the dual coils were made of standard spiral-shaped wire—which did the trick, but still didn’t quite live up to the incomparable flavour of the original Elf Bar 600 disposables. This could, of course, be down to the tightness of the draw and the omission of the E-Liquid sponge, among other things.
Regardless, the mesh coils in the Elfa pods are certainly an improvement when it comes to flavour production.
Who should buy the Elfa pod kit?
The Elfa kit is an excellent choice for new vapers and those looking to switch from smoking to vaping. Thanks to the 20mg nicotine salt strength, the vape delivers a sensation that’s similar to a cigarette with an ultra-smooth and satisfying throat hit, which is excellent for those trying to make the switch. In addition, each pod outlasts an entire pack of cigarettes, so you won’t be reaching for those pricey cancer sticks any time soon.
The Elfa is also a great choice for anyone looking for a more travel-friendly vape to take with them on the go. Because it fits so easily in a pocket or handbag, and because of the pre-filled pod system, this device takes all the fuss out of travel vaping. Simply pop in a pod and make sure it’s charged, and you’re ready for a night out or a day trip.
Pros & Cons of the Elf Bar Elfa Pod Kit
I’ve really, sincerely struggled to find any cons with this device. For me, it’s nearly perfect, from the draw to the flavour production to the feel of the device. The only major downside for me was that you can’t see how much E-Liquid is left in the pod, but this comes down to the inclusion of the sponge inside the pod.
I think Elf Bar knows full well what their bestseller is—the 600 disposable—and decided to turn that very device into a pre-filled pod kit. For that, I commend them.
As such, the few cons I’ve listed here are facets with which I believe some vapers may take issue. For me, the Elfa device is damn near perfection.
