Twelve Monkeys Nic Salt E-Liquid Review: 6 Authentic Flavours Revamped!
Canada’s own Twelve Monkeys Vapor has just re-released their legendary nic salt range, now with new packaging and an improved recipe. Here, we’ll be reviewing all 6 flavours!
What are Twelve Monkeys Nic Salts?
Twelve Monkeys Vapor is a globally-renowned and established premium E-Liquid manufacturer based in Canada, with a range of classic flavours that vapers have enjoyed for years. Now, as the revolution of nic salts and MTL vaping is underway, the company has decided to reformulate their nic salt range with improved recipes and all-new packaging.
This revamp is welcome news for vapers who love Twelve Monkeys’ E-Liquids, but who—like me—have recently grown accustomed to stronger, more intense flavourings. Many diehard fans of Twelve Monkeys’ juices have been waiting for an update to these classic flavours as the vape market has continued to evolve.
Now, they’ve delivered: the revised Twelve Monkeys Nic Salt E-Liquid range is here, with brand spankin’ new packaging and improved recipes.
The juices are made with premium food-grade ingredients with no added sweeteners—so those looking for an ultra-sweet vape may want to look elsewhere. But vapers who prefer a more natural-tasting, sucralose-free vape will absolutely love the revamped range. The 50% PG & 50% VG ratio ensures a smooth throat hit with low-powered MTL devices like pod vapes and starter kits.
The nic salts are available in 10ml bottles in 10mg and 20mg nicotine strengths, and like other nic salts, their nicotine formulation ensures that they provide a quicker nicotine delivery and a smoother throat hit at higher strengths compared to freebase E-Liquids. This makes them an excellent choice for new vapers and recent ex-smokers looking to satisfy their nicotine cravings quickly.
Let’s see what all of the fuss is about!
Twelve Monkeys Nic Salt E-Liquid Review
If you’re a vaper who hates the ubiquity of ice flavours, you’re in luck—this range doesn’t have a single ice or menthol flavour! The range boasts a series of complex, lusciously fruity flavour combinations with a truly authentic, premium taste.
Let’s get into my impressions!
1. Mangabeys by Twelve Monkeys Salts
£3.99 | 3 for £10
Flavour: Pineapple, Guava, Mango
My absolute favourite of the bunch, this juicy tropical medley is like an oasis for your taste buds.
This flavour features a nice, blissfully tropical blend with rich and juicy notes throughout, with the stars being the sweet pineapple and mango flavours.
Natural-tasting and authentic, these fruits meld perfectly with sharp and tangy notes of guava on the exhale.
This one was my top flavour by far. Maybe it’s the juiciness of the mango, or the richness of the pineapple—regardless, this is one I could easily vape all day long, no matter the time of year.
It tastes like a cocktail in vape form, and if you love tropical medleys, you’ll love Mangabeys! I have a soft spot for great tropical blends—and this one is definitely up there!
2. Kanzi by Twelve Monkeys Salts
£3.99 | 3 for £10
Flavour: Strawberry, Watermelon, Kiwi
Kanzi has been one of the company’s top-selling flavours in their Twelve Monkeys Shortfill range for years, and it’s easy to see why. This flavour features a classic fruit combo with a juicy-fruity twist.
On the inhale, your taste buds are greeted by a lovely melding of ultra-juicy, super authentic watermelon and ripe strawberries, which blend together perfectly into one luscious mouthful.
And while the strawberries aren’t super distinct, they add a welcome richness to the otherwise light watermelon flavour.
On the exhale, zingy-sweet notes of kiwi grace your tongue, leaving the most perfectly balanced (and brief) aftertaste.
I highly recommend this flavour to just about anyone—especially those of us who’ve grown tired of buying “watermelon” E-Liquids only to find that they’re more of a sickly-sweet candy flavour than a fruity one.
3. Hakuna by Twelve Monkeys Salts
£3.99 | 3 for £10
Flavour: Apple, Cranberry
So, I initially tried Matata before trying Hakuna. I’d expected to like Matata much more, but I was wrong! Never did I anticipate liking a cranberry-flavoured E-Liquid so much.
The flavourings used in this juice are just exquisite. The cranberry flavouring is much less tart than I was expecting—it’s a very smooth, rich flavouring that lends deep undertones.
In contrast, the apple flavour is crisp and verdant—bright with a slight edge to it, just like a real green apple.
This flavour, along with Matata, is probably the sweetest flavour in the range thanks to the berry undertones, but it’s still a subtle sweetness.
Overall, this is a really enjoyable flavour that I didn’t expect to like so much.
Even as someone who usually vapes ultra-concentrated flavours, I really enjoyed the taste of this one and could see myself vaping it regularly when I need a break from my usual liquids.
4. Matata by Twelve Monkeys Salts
£3.99 | 3 for £10
Flavour: Grape, Apple
Sweet and juicy, this flavour delivers exactly what it promises, balanced to perfection: sumptuous grape and apple flavours blended into one luscious juice.
The grape flavour is rich and deep with a really juicy quality that lingers after the exhale. The apple flavour is subtle and crisp, with a touch of sour zing on the exhale that helps to balance out the richness of the berry taste.
Tied with Hakuna, this is the sweetest flavour in the range—though, again, this sweetness is very subtle and comes from the flavourings themselves.
If you’ve been dying for a real, authentic grape flavour—not one of those artificial grape drink-flavoured E-Liquids—I’m certain you’ll love this one.
I can’t tell you the last time I tried a grape vape flavour that tasted like real grapes!
5. Harambae by Twelve Monkeys Salts
£3.99 | 3 for £10
Flavour: Lemon, Lime, Blood Orange, Guava
Now, those who know me are aware that I’m not huge into citrusy vapes, particularly when there’s no menthol involved.
Still, the citrus in this flavour helped to cover up the harshness of the nicotine hit (see my General Impressions section below for more on this), which was a welcome addition here.
If you like citrusy vapes, this will be your favourite one! It’s tangy and sweet, with a sour tinge on the tip of your tongue as you exhale.
While I can’t taste all of the individual flavourings used here, it’s a very complex and well-rounded brew, with the primary flavours (for me) being the guava and lemon.
I could taste the guava most of all.
This was the only flavour in the range which I felt tasted slightly artificial, but this wasn’t to its detriment. All in all, I really liked this one, even as someone who doesn’t usually love citrus vapes.
6. Tropika by Twelve Monkeys Salts
£3.99 | 3 for £10
Flavour: Lychee, Papaya, Passion Fruit
Unfortunately, one flavour has to be last in the list—but I still most definitely enjoyed this one.
Light and delicate, this tropical fruit blend features a juicy mix of tasty papaya, passion fruit, and lychee—and while at least two of these flavours are known for being rich, deep flavours, I didn’t really get that from the Tropika E-Liquid.
The overall taste was more light and zingy than anything else.
In my opinion, the flavourings used in this juice aren’t incredibly distinct, or even super tropical—it tastes more like a bright fruit medley with acidic notes on the exhale.
However, even though I couldn’t identify the flavours, I still enjoyed vaping the juice and would recommend it to fans of light and tangy tropical flavours.
Also, this doesn’t really mean much, but I thought this flavour tasted rather yellow. Yes, yellow. Take from that what you will.
General Impressions
I really enjoyed vaping this range overall.
My first impression was that the flavours reminded me of my favourite 100% VG E-Liquid range, Frugi, which is made to taste ultra-authentic with a mix of natural and artificial flavourings. The Twelve Monkeys salts range definitely gave me that same authentic taste thanks to the lack of added sweeteners, which allows the fruity notes to really shine through.
All in all, if that natural taste is what you’re after and you’re not big on icy menthol flavours, I think you’re gonna love the Twelve Monkeys range.
My only qualm with the range is that the actual nicotine salt used in the E-Liquid can be rather harsh on the throat. I asked a few other members of staff for their opinions on this, and 3 out of 4 people said that the nicotine was too harsh for them (we used the 20mg strength to test this). This harshness can most likely be attributed to the formulation of the nicotine itself.
A quick chemistry lesson: nicotine salts are created by adding an acid—most commonly, benzoic or salicylic acid—to the nicotine base which reduces the pH of the nicotine, allowing it to enter the bloodstream faster and deliver that throat hit we all love.
But different preparations and the use of different acids in the formula will lead to varying results—and in the case of Twelve Monkeys’ salts, which uses lactic acid, this results in a harsher throat hit.
Personally, I would change this nicotine formulation in favour of one with a smoother throat hit—but on the flipside, vapers looking for a sharp throat hit may find that this range scratches their itch more than other nic salts do. It’s similar to the throat hit you get from the Riot Hybrid Nic Salt E-Liquid range.
All in all, the flavours were so delicate and natural-tasting—I just wish the salts were a little smoother on the throat. Then again, recent ex-smokers may find the sharpness of the nicotine to be right up their alley.
