Design & Appearance
The Aspire Flexus Q pod kit weighs just under 57g, making the kit lightweight while still maintaining a general durability. I was surprised when I first held the kit to find how sturdy it is—it feels like a really solid piece of tech, and it sits very comfortably in your hand.
The front of the kit houses a single button, which is used to power on the device, navigate between the three power settings, and to fire the device. The kit also offers automatic draw activation, so you don’t even have to press the button to fire.
The USB Type-C charging port is located on the bottom of the device, and on the back, the model name is emblazoned on a pretty, holographic-style plate. I received the Fuchsia colour, which has a lovely reflective pink and blue striped finish beneath the model name.
On the side of the Flexus Q, there’s an adjustable airflow valve, which is a very welcome addition to the kit. The sliding switch is easy to move but not loose, so you shouldn’t have to worry about moving it accidentally. The adjustable airflow allows for the user to tighten their draw for a more MTL-appropriate puff, while opening the airflow entirely is more conducive to RDTL (Restricted Direct-to-Lung) vaping.
This airflow valve makes the Flexus Q far more versatile overall, in my opinion, and definitely puts it ahead of other pod kits which don’t offer airflow options.
The Interface
The Aspire Flexus Q is incredibly user-friendly, with several features that make operating the device a breeze. I’ve found that when using this device, I spend far less time looking at it, fiddling with the menu settings and the pod, which is a definite plus as someone who fidgets a lot.
As with other similar devices, pressing the button five times in quick succession will power the device on or off, and pressing it three times will switch between soft, normal, and hard power output modes. This allows the user to adjust the power level to their needs without having to calculate an exact wattage, which I can certainly appreciate.
Below the button is the LED indicator light, which will glow either green, blue, or red while vaping to indicate the battery level (with green signalling +80% battery capacity, blue meaning medium battery, and red indicating low battery). While charging, the LED indicator light will also steadily glow either green, blue, or red to indicate the device’s current level of charge.
The Flexus Q also features an auto coil detection function, where the device can automatically sense the resistance of the coil you’re using and set the wattage accordingly.
This plus the adjustable airflow and the three available power modes makes the Flexus Q a highly versatile pod kit: vapers who prefer a tight MTL draw with discreet vapour can have it their way, while RDTL vapers who like a lot of flavour and vapour can have it their way, too. This kit really is an excellent choice for both MTL and RDTL vapers.
The Battery
The fast-charging ability of the Flexus Q pod kit is probably its biggest USP, advertised to reach 80% charge in just 10 minutes.
I can attest to this after having timed the device’s charging several times now. From 0% battery, when plugged in, the device’s LED indicator light progresses from red to green in under 10 minutes every time. That’s pretty incredible for a kit with a 700mAh vape battery.
When I first heard that this kit charged in under 10 minutes, my knee-jerk response was, “How long does it stay charged—like, an hour?” Oh, I was so, so wrong.
The battery life on this kit is exactly what I’d hoped for. It’s not outrageous—I still have to charge it at least twice a day as a frequent vaper—but I get far more out of this device per charge than I thought was possible, given the lightning-fast charging time.
The vape kit was fully charged straight out of the box, and the battery stayed above 80% for two full hours of moderate use, which I found surprising.
I’m very pleased to report that yes, it charges in 10 minutes, and yes, the battery will likely last you at least a whole day with standard usage. Talk about a USP!
As I write this, I’m currently timing the charging capacity for the Flexus Q from 0% battery. Incredibly, from a completely dead battery, it’s taken only 32 seconds for the indicator light to go from red to blue. And to reach 80% battery, it takes only 5 minutes and 27 seconds. That’s right.
Overall, I have absolutely no qualms or criticisms for the battery in this device. It’s a truly remarkable feat of engineering on Aspire’s part, and I hope to see more kits utilising this technology in the future.
The Pod & Coils
The Flexus Q pod kit houses a snap-fit plastic pod which holds up to 2ml of E-Liquid. The E-Liquid filling port is located on the side of the pod beneath a leak-proof silicone latch.
Because of the way the pod is designed, it’s super easy to see how much E-Liquid you have left, so there’s far less opportunity for dry hits. In fact, only about half a centimetre is obscured by the device when the pod is fitted into place, so when the E-Liquid reaches a level that you can’t see, you know it’s time for a refill.
Overall, the pod is incredibly easy to fill—no uncomfortable hand positions needed. The duckbill-shaped mouthpiece, which is integrated into the pod, is small and very comfortable, among my favourite pod kit mouthpieces to use thus far. In addition, I haven’t noticed any significant leaking issues with the pod, which is definitely a plus.
My main qualm with the pod is that the snap-fit function isn’t entirely secure. At times, I find that it’s slightly out of position (when I say slightly, I mean by a millimetre or two) and have to snap it back in, but this is a remarkably small downside when compared to everything the device has going for it.
Yes, god forbid I sometimes have to adjust the pod by a single millimetre, but hey—you’re here for honesty, right?
The pods utilise changeable Aspire Flexus Replacement Coils, which come in two resistances and feature flavourful mesh builds on both accounts. The kit comes with one of each coil in the box: a 0.6Ω (ohm) coil and a 1.0Ω (ohm) coil. Both coils are best paired with high PG vape juices like freebase 10ml E-Liquids and salt nicotine.
The coils are press-fit, meaning that they are inserted into the bottom of the pod by pushing them in. When inserted, the coil sticks out of the bottom by less than a centimetre.
Straight out of the box, I went for the 0.6Ω coil, which offers excellent flavour and vapour production and has slightly larger wicking holes than the 1.0Ω coil. With the airflow all the way open and the power on the highest setting, I was able to produce pretty large clouds and very dense flavour for an MTL vape.
I prefer the 0.6Ω coil for my 50/50 E-Liquids, while the 1.0Ω coil is better for Nic Salts, in my opinion, as it provides a slightly more discreet amount of vapour and a smoother throat hit compared to the 0.6Ω coil.
Who should get the Aspire Flexus Q pod kit?
The Flexus Q is ideal for new and experienced vapers alike. The combination of the user-friendly interface, no-nonsense design, and external coils make this vape an excellent entryway into more maintenance-heavy kits, given how easy it is to swap the coils and upkeep the device in general.
I’d absolutely recommend this device to any MTL or RDTL vaper for its versatility and ease of use.
If you’re looking for a simple starter vape kit to help your nan quit smoking, I’d recommend this one. If you need something more pocket-friendly to take with you on your commute, I’d recommend this one. If you’re just starting out in your vaping journey and need something with fewer confusing buttons, I’d recommend this one.
See the pattern?
Pros & Cons of the Aspire Flexus Q Pod Kit
I’d like to point out in advance that I have very little negative feedback for this device; it does the job and it does it brilliantly. There’s absolutely nothing I’d change about the device at all, unless I wanted to suit it more to my personal preferences. As it stands, I think this is one of the most universal MTL kits on the market.
