We were lucky enough to receive a sample of the device for review, and I’ve gotta say, this kit is a real winner. I’ve had a really tough time finding any issues with the device at all.

Design & Appearance
The Aspire Riil X is a matchbox-style pod kit with a luggage-inspired shape, comprising a metallic chassis and a sturdy plastic pod. The 86g device comes in a large box with a beautiful presentation, including a user manual booklet and a box of accessories. The box itself is quite large, measuring 15cm x 15cm x 4.5cm, and includes everything you’ll need to start using the kit, minus the E-Liquids.
The Riil X is made of a reinforced Zinc Alloy material, with rounded corners and a metal loop on one side, which holds the dangly Aspire logo tag and attaches to the included chain lanyard. The body of the device is screwed together at the corners with a strong bolt. The front and back have indentations much like the ones you would see on a hard-shell suitcase.
On the opposite side of the device, you’ll find the adjustable airflow switch, which can be set from fully closed to partially open to fully open, so you have the option of switching between MTL and RDTL vaping styles with the flick of a finger.
The charging port is located on the bottom of the device, and the LED indicator light can be found inside the Aspire logo along the bottom front of the Riil X’s body. This light will glow green, blue, or red to signify the current battery capacity while vaping. You can tell the battery has died when the light flashes 15 times. More information on the LED indicator light can be found on the Riil X FAQ page.
Overall, the Riil X feels incredibly sturdy alongside its slightly heavier build (which doesn’t bother me in the slightest). As many of you know, I’m incredibly clumsy, and I tend to drop my vapes a lot. This vape is great for me in that it’s heavy enough to stay put, and when it does fall (I’ve dropped it only, like, 3 times), it doesn’t scatter to pieces when it hits the floor. It’s a highly durable vape and I applaud Aspire for the build quality.
The vape has rounded corners, which isn’t super conducive to staying upright. And because the charging port is on the bottom of the device, you can’t charge it while it’s standing up. I generally like to keep my vapes upright to prevent leaking and coil flooding issues, but I’ve yet to experience a single hiccup with the design of this device. It’s pretty damn close to flawless.
The only downside to the design, in my opinion, is that the finish of the body means that it’s highly prone to fingerprints. So, if that’s something that bothers you, this may not be the best vape for you. Still, even with the fingerprints, this device still has a lovely appearance and looks quite clean and flashy.
The supplied neck chain has a standard necklace clasp and measures 80cm—roughly 32 inches—and because the material is magnetic, I can only assume it’s not made of silver. The chain is long enough that you can pop it over your head without having to undo the clasp, which is very nice. It also sits right at the middle of my chest while I’m wearing it. The chain has come in handy now that it’s summer and I’m left with fewer pockets on my clothes (curse women’s fashion for having so few pockets).
I thought I’d look ridiculous wearing the neck chain, especially after my husband made a comment about the Riil X looking like a flask. But after wearing it all weekend around my flat and cherishing the convenience of it, I decided to be bold and wear it during my commute today. Honestly, having my vape hanging from my neck and not having to dig around my handbag or my pockets to find it made up for any and all of the dignity lost while wearing it. I truthfully adore the neck chain.
Interface & Features
The Riil X has no buttons or settings to mess with, which makes operation an absolute breeze. Every time you pop in a new coil, no matter which resistance, the internal chipset automatically sets the output wattage for you, which means you never accidentally fire at the wrong wattage.
Still, the other devices recently added to the Flexus range offer multiple power settings, so I was ever-so-slightly disappointed to see that missing from this device. I guess that’s the trade-off for a buttonless vape experience.
The Riil X’s auto-draw feature is seamless; it has a hair trigger and never misses a puff—not even by a half-second.
Overall, I feel like the performance and features in the Riil X were very carefully thought-out, delivering a perfectly hassle-free device with all of the bells and whistles that current MTL and RDTL vapers are looking for (and minus all of the features these vapers don’t need, like buttons).
Battery Life & Performance
The Riil X vape kit came fully charged right out of the box.
I was somewhat discouraged when I saw that the device has only a 700mAh battery, when other smaller (and cheaper) pod kits have even larger ones.
Still, the Riil X has something that the two latest devices in the Flexus range lack: 2A charging. While all of the latest devices are USB Type-C, the Flexus Stik and the Flexus Blok both have 1A charging, which is slower than 2A in comparison. Paired with these devices’ larger battery sizes, you’ll be waiting a while for your vape to charge.
This isn’t the case with the Riil X pod kit. The first day I used it, it took over 3 hours for the battery capacity to drop from 100% to below 60%, and when it did come time to charge the device, I only had it on charge for about 20 minutes before the indicator light was back to green.
So, while this device does have a slightly smaller battery compared to some other kits on the market, Aspire makes up for it with the lightning-fast 2A charging.
There is one issue with the charging, which is definitely worth noting: when charging from an empty battery to full capacity, the device gets very warm to the touch, to the point that I had to avoid vaping it directly after taking it off of charge. I know that this is likely down to the conductive nature of the metal material used in the device’s construction, but I still feel that there should’ve been some better insulation of some sort between the battery and the metal.
Of course, a hot battery will degrade over time, so this is something to bear in mind when it comes to the health of the device. Luckily, when the battery is full, it stops charging automatically. The light turns off and the device immediately starts to cool down. The warmth from the battery is one of the very few cons I found with the device overall.
Pod & Coils
I have hardly any negative things to say about the pod and coils here.
The pod itself is made of a strong, sturdy PCTG material and should only ever have to be replaced if it becomes cracked, leaky, or no longer holds its coil securely in place. Thankfully, we carry the Aspire Riil X Replacement Pod on our website if you’re looking for a spare.
The mouthpiece has an ergonomic duckbill shape, which fits nicely between your lips, and the pod is held in place by two ultra-strong magnets, ensuring that it’s never accidentally detached from the device. The Riil X pod is perfectly transparent, and while the E-Liquid level is obscured when the pod is inside the device, you can easily turn it upside down to see how much liquid you have left thanks to the crystal-clear material.
I’ve already reviewed the Aspire Flexus coils three times (for the Flexus Q, the Flexus Blok, and the Flexus Stik), but it’s worth saying again: these mesh coils are some of the best MTL and RDTL coils I’ve ever used.
The press-fit coils have a mesh build for denser flavour, and the option of either a 0.6Ω (ohm) or 1.0Ω (ohm) resistance allows you to choose between thicker clouds or more discreet vapour production (respectively). The Riil X comes with one of each coil included, so you can easily decide which one you prefer. Personally, I tend to favour the 0.6 ohm coils for a more RDTL-style vape. But if you like less vapour, you’ll probably prefer the 1.0 ohm coil.
Moreover, these coils are particularly excellent because they last me much longer than others do. I tend to prefer kits that take pods with built-in coils, but the pods will usually only last me a few days before the coil starts going bad due to the sweetness of the E-Liquids I use.
These coils, however, last me a heck of a lot longer—10 days, at least. Sometimes, I can go a full 2 weeks before having to change the coil, which hasn’t been the case since I was strictly a sub-ohm vaper. So, if you love sweeter E-Liquids (like I do) but find that most pod kits can’t support the habit, I can assure you that these coils do.
When it comes to pairing the Riil X pod kit with E-Liquids, your best bet is to opt for vape juices with a PG content of 50% or higher, which includes Nic Salts as well as 50/50 E-Liquids. These juices go well with both coil resistances.
We do not recommend using your Riil X kit with high-VG juices, as this will lead to you burning your coil, among other nasty side effects.
Who should get the Aspire Riil X?
Truthfully, this kit is a perfect choice for any vaper looking for a hassle-free device with style. Its lack of buttons or menus make this vape incredibly user-friendly, so I’d recommend it to just about anyone, from your vaper friend to your nan. Plus, the added benefit of the neck chain and the lack of buttons means this vape is a great choice for anyone who has a mobility impairment. Anyone can use this kit, which is one of the qualities that makes it so great.
It’s a great first-ever kit for newbies, and an excellent choice for established vapers, too. As long as you’re an MTL or RDTL vaper, you’ll love the Riil X pod kit.
Pros & Cons of the Aspire Riil X Pod Kit
I really, truly struggled to find cons for this device. There’s hardly anything I’d change about it, and several of the cons I’ve listed for the device are entirely subjective.

Conclusion
The Aspire Riil X pod kit is an excellent little vape kit, and I have very little negative feedback, in truth. There’s virtually nothing I’d change about the device, aside from maybe adding a few more colourways and making the battery a bit bigger. Good news on the first point, though: Aspire has promised a limited edition 24k gold-plated version to be released in the near future!
The Riil X is an astounding little kit for its ease-of-use and style. I haven’t encountered a single hiccup in using the device at all, from the flavour to the auto-draw activation. The Riil X ticks all of my boxes for a perfect everyday vape.
