Vaporesso Moti X Mini Overview
Vaporesso is churning out some incredible vape kits as of late. The X Mini, created in collaboration with Moti, delivers a sub-ohm vape experience (once reserved for those bulky, box-shaped mod devices) in a mighty little pod device.
The X Mini, weighing just over 55g fully assembled, attempts to redefine sub-ohm vaping. And at just £18.99, it’s one of the most affordable sub-ohm vape kits on the market.
The X Mini is essentially a cross between a beginner-friendly, single-button pod kit and a sub-ohm vape, offering both the ease of use of a pod device and the cloud production of a sub-ohm kit.
On a personal note, I was particularly excited to try this vape, as I’ve been wanting to find an easy kit I could use with 100% VG E-Liquids. So, I picked up some Frugi 100% VG Shortfills and have been testing the X Mini to see how it handles 100% VG E-Liquids, which are thicker than other liquids.
My experience trying 100% VG in this vape wasn’t great—read on to find out how the vape held up!
Design & Appearance
The X Mini is a small and lightweight pod device with few bells and whistles. I received the Mystic Purple finish, which has a muted but really lovely purple colour in the metal detailing and internal parts.
From first glance, you’ll notice an exposed circuit design encased in a sleek, capsule-shaped clear plastic outer shell. The circuit is connected to the red fire button, and above that, a matte-finish metal cylinder wraps around the device, with the adjustable airflow vents on either side. On the back of the device, you’ll find the Vaporesso X Moti logo.
On the bottom of the X Mini, there’s a USB Type-C charging port (thankfully, the device comes with a charging cable), and the blue LED light sits underneath the black gradient. This light will glow when vaping and charging, though I do wish the LED light integrated other colours to give more warning when the battery is running low (more on this later).
One downside to the device is that it will not stand upright, which I definitely believe is a design flaw. It appears that it was meant to be able to stand, but mine simply doesn’t. It tips to one side before promptly falling over.
Overall, I really love the design of the X Mini. It’s sleek and shiny, and unlike other kits I’ve had, it’s far from being a fingerprint magnet. And while I initially felt that the device appeared very masculine based on the manufacturer photos, it looks quite unisex when you see it in person.
While there are a few minor things I’d change about the X Mini’s design, like the single LED light colour and the device’s inability to stand upright, it’s really sleek and expensive-looking for a vape that costs less than £20.
Interface & Features
The X Mini has only a single button for operation. The fire button can be used to turn the device on or off by pressing 5 times in quick succession, and it’s also used to fire the vape.
The device’s interface is seamless, in my opinion, and it really takes the guesswork out of sub-ohm vaping. The X Mini’s adaptive power control chip automatically sets the wattage for you, so you never have to worry about power output or settings.
In addition, the built-in MCU chip is capable of distinguishing different vaping patterns, like chain vaping and extended inhales, and will adjust the X Mini’s power output to avoid burning the coil—while you never have to lift a finger.
I did find with the 100% VG E-Liquids that they put a greater strain on the coil, which led to the power automatically decreasing without my say-so. This led to weaker puffs after my initial few, but I remedied this by taking a few puffs at a time and putting it down for a few minutes to give the coil time to cool down.
The entire interface is truly a hands-off experience, which I really appreciate now that I’m so used to vaping MTL pod kits.
In truth, this is a really easy sub-ohm vape. In the past, I’ve owned adjustable wattage mods for DTL vaping, and I always found the interfaces to be too clunky and obtrusive for my taste. This vape, however, is really just a press-to-vape type of deal.
Battery Life & Performance
The X Mini houses an internal 1150mAh battery, which is enough to last me (a frequent/constant vaper) about half a day.
It should be noted that sub-ohm/DTL vaping consumes more battery life than MTL vaping does, so sub-ohm vapes need to accommodate that by having larger batteries.
The X Mini has a decent battery capacity compared to the small size of the device, and I would estimate that it would last most vapers about a day of use before needing to be recharged. Thankfully, the X Mini recharges fairly quickly via USB-C—it takes roughly an hour to go from 0% to 100% battery.
My main complaint about the battery is not the size, but rather that you have no way of knowing how much battery life you have left. This is because the LED indicator light only glows one colour—blue—and doesn’t have a programmed signal to let you know that you’re running low before the battery dies.
As a result, there have been several instances where the device has suddenly run out of battery with no warning, which is definitely a con for me. Otherwise, I’m quite happy with the X Mini’s battery and performance.
Pod & Coils
Strap in, folks. This is where most of my feedback comes in.
The X Mini uses a strong PCTG pod, which has a 2ml E-Liquid capacity and is held in place magnetically. The pod uses changeable coils, so the pod itself should only need to be replaced if it becomes cracked, leaky, or no longer holds its coil securely in place.
Fill Port
The pod has a sturdy bottom-fill port which is held shut by a thick rubber stopper.
Usually, vapes with this type of fill port have a tendency to leak, but I’m very pleased to confirm that the fill port on the X Mini is really excellent—with no leaks and very little condensation below the pod.
Adjustable Airflow
The structure of the pod allows for you to adjust the airflow by simply rotating the pod in place. This is quite handy and allows for a stepless airflow adjustment system.
Unfortunately, it’s really easy to accidentally rotate the pod in place, so whenever I pick it up, I have to make sure the airflow is on the right setting. This is a minor inconvenience for me, as it only takes a second.
One thing I take issue with is that the airflow holes are difficult to see inside, so it can be hard to tell where your airflow setting is upon visual inspection.
Below, I’ve taken some photos to show what the airflow looks like when it’s fully open, halfway open, and fully closed (left to right). As you can see, there’s not much of a difference visually.
Refilling the Vaporesso Moti X Mini Pod
As you can see from the photo below, the pod has silicone pieces inside.
This is commonly found in pod kits here in the UK: taking a pod which is designed to hold 4ml (or more) of E-Liquid and adding silicone pieces inside to reduce the total capacity to the 2ml TPD standard.
Usually, pod manufacturers opt to implement the silicone as a single piece which is set to one side of the pod (as is the case with several Nord pods).
However, for some reason, Vaporesso and Moti have decided to integrate a series of silicone wedges in a star-shaped configuration, which has made the pod rather difficult to refill when using thicker juices like the 100% VG E-Liquids I’ve chosen to use.
The result is that refilling takes me a lot longer, as I have to deal with the “bubble dancing” (shaking and turning the pod to get the bubbles to go toward the fill port), and oftentimes, I simply can’t get the bubbles to move. The silicone pieces make it difficult to fill the pod entirely, and this has been my biggest issue in using the device.
Refilling with a standard shortfill is easier, though the silicone pieces are still a nuisance, as the E-Liquids can’t easily pass around the silicone to fill the entire pod. I would say that if you’re using regular shortfills in your X Mini, the issue won’t be as prominent.
But if you’re looking to use this vape with an E-Liquid with a VG content over 70%, you’ll need to take the refilling issue into account before making your purchase. I truthfully wouldn’t recommend using this vape with an E-Liquid that has a VG content above 70% or 80%.
In addition, the silicone inside makes it difficult to tell how much juice you have left, as the E-Liquid can’t distribute itself evenly around the pod.
I really, sincerely wish that they would make a 2ml pod with no silicone inside. I realise that it’s included to ensure that the pods meet TPD regulations, but it would be easier for everyone involved if the manufacturers simply made a 2ml pod instead of taking a larger pod and reducing its capacity.
Vaporesso X Mini Coil
The device comes with one coil included: a press-fit coil (meaning you simply have to push it into the pod to install it) which has a honeycomb mesh structure to deliver more flavour than standard coils. The honeycomb mesh is designed to be even more flavourful than a regular mesh coil, too, thanks to its larger surface area.
The coil has a resistance of 0.35Ω (ohm), making it perfect for sub-ohm vaping.
Upon my initial inspection, the coil has larger than average wicking holes, which is usually a sign that the coil can handle thick E-Liquids.
This is the reason I chose to pair the device with 100% VG E-Liquids. However, after vaping this for several days, I’ve found that the main reason this device isn’t compatible with 100% VG E-Liquids is not really because of the coils, but because of the silicone in the pods.
So while the coils are fine for 100% VG (save for the occasional weak puff due to the coil getting too warm and the device automatically decreasing the power output) the pod most certainly is not, which is why I don’t recommend 100% VG E-Liquid for this device.
Generally speaking, I love the flavour from this coil, and it shows no signs of degradation yet. I estimate that the coil will last me at least two weeks, which is the gold standard.
I do want to mention that when I first installed the coil, I pressed it into place, but the coil wasn’t fully seated properly. It kept slipping out of the pod, which I only later realised meant that it wasn’t installed correctly. When inserting your X Mini coil for the first time, ensure that you press firmly until the coil pops into place.
As usual, when using a sub-ohm coil, it’s best to pair it with a high-VG E-Liquid—any juice with a VG ratio of 70% or higher will do. But if you’re going for 100% VG, you should be looking for coils with large wicking holes.
Vaping the Vaporesso Moti X Mini
Vaping the device is easy-peasy. You hardly have to think about it other than to remember to press the button to fire.
Since this is a sub-ohm vape, you’ll have to employ a DTL vaping style, which entails pulling the vapour directly into your lungs rather than into your mouth first. The X Mini creates a really satisfying inhale, and I honestly can’t fault its functionality at all.
The X Mini is somewhat noisy on the inhale, but this depends on your airflow configuration. I’ve found that the whirring sound is most prominent when the airflow is fully open and I take a particularly sharp inhale. I don’t find this to be a con, per se, though I know some vapers who really prefer a silent vape.
The honeycomb mesh coils deliver massive amounts of vapour in every puff. This is partially due to the 100% VG juice I’ve used, but also, because the coils have a greater surface area for heating the E-Liquid. You end up with huge plumes of vapour—enough to easily fill a room or accidentally set off a smoke alarm (I learned this the hard way at home).
It’s honestly such a surprise the first time you vape it. How can such a tiny device create such huge clouds?
Who should get the Vaporesso Moti X Mini?
Anyone looking to make the switch to sub-ohm vaping with higher-VG E-Liquids like shortfills will love the X Mini—especially if it’s your first time vaping sub-ohm. The X Mini makes sub-ohm vaping much less complicated, as you never have to think about settings or menus or accidentally hitting the wrong button.
It’s also a great choice for anyone looking for a cheap sub-ohm vape, as this device retails for just £18.99, which is much less than most other sub-ohm vapes on the market.
One of the benefits of switching to sub-ohm is that you have the option to use vape juices with zero nicotine, since all UK shortfills come with a 0mg strength. So, if you’re looking to cut your nicotine intake, this vape is an excellent choice. Not only is it as easy to use as your standard MTL pod kit—it’s also compatible with 0mg E-Liquids.

Conclusion
All in all, the features you get for just £18.99 make the X Mini a steal. A sub-ohm vape that fits in the palm of your hand with minimal maintenance and no menus? Sign me up!
While this vape does have a select few cons (*cough* SILICONE *cough*), I feel that the positives far outweigh the negatives. And if you’re just getting started with sub-ohm vaping, this is a great place to start.
And while I haven’t had the best time using this kit with 100% VG E-Liquids, regular shortfills work perfectly fine with the X Mini—which is what it was designed for, after all.
