What type of E-Liquid should I buy?
As a new vaper it might be hard to understand the different types of E-Liquids available, with everything from Shortfill’s to Nic Salt it can be pretty daunting to understand what to buy.
As a new vaper there are mainly two different types of E-liquids you should be looking at and those are 50/50 E-liquids and Nicotine Salt E-Liquids. Let us start by trying to explain the first one, 50/50 E-liquids.
50/50 E-liquids have been around since the beginning of vaping and the name refers to the PG and VG ratio use in the E-Liquid. E-Liquids are mainly constructed of 2 main ingredients PG and VG combined with some flavouring and Nicotine. The VG in the E-liquids is what produces the vapour, also referred to as the “clouds”. VG is quite thick in viscosity, whilst PG is much thinner. The PG in the E-Liquid helps carrying the flavour and gives a bit of a throat hit. Mixing the PG and VG in a 50/50 ratio gives the best of both worlds, good clouds, good flavour and most importantly it makes the E-liquid thin enough to be compatible with most basic Vaping Starter kits and Pod Kits.
50/50 E-Liquids are generally available in 3, 6, 12 and 18mg strength and is made with freebase Nicotine. For a new vaper we recommend trying 6 or 12mg and then go up or down in strength depending on personal preference of throat hit, the higher the nicotine the harder the throat hit will be.
Nicotine Salt E-liquids (or Nic Salts)
Nicotine Salt E-liquids also known as Nic Salts are very similar to 50/50 E-liquids and are generally mixed in the PG and VG ratio, with some small variations such as 40/60. These E-Liquids are made with nicotine found in tobacco leaves combined with adding benzoic acid to reduces the pH value of the Nicotine. This reduced PH value makes Nicotine Salt E-Liquids much smoother to vape and give a less harsh throat hit than E-liquids made with freebase Nicotine. Nicotine Salt E-Liquids also gives a much quicker “fix” as it enters the blood stream quicker and gives a vaping sensation remarkably similar to smoking. These 2 things combined makes Nic Salts an excellent choice for any smoker looking to make the switch to vaping. As the throat hit is smoother it is supplied in higher nicotine strengths with 20mg being the most popular, most brands also have a 10mg option available and some even have a 5mg option for vapers that want to gradually reduce their nicotine intake.
Shortfill E-Liquids are usually used by more experienced vapers also known as Sub-Ohm vapers. These E-Liquids are vaped using more advanced vape kits that produces larger amounts of vapour and flavour. As you are getting more vapour you need to lower the nicotine strength, as vaping anything over 3mg will be quite harsh.
Shortfill E-Liquids where introduced to the UK/EU market after the new TPD regulations in 2017. These TPD regulations put a limit on E-Liquids containing nicotine to a maximum bottle size of 10ml with a maximum nicotine content of 20mg. Luckily the UK/EU market quickly adapted to these new regulations and introduced large bottles containing nicotine free E-liquid leaving enough space for a 10ml Nicotine Shot to be added (shortfilled). They are mostly commonly supplied in 60ml or 120ml bottles containing 50 or 100ml of E-Liquid. This leaves enough space in the 60ml bottle to add 1 x Nicotine Shot and enough space in the 120ml bottle to add 2 x Nicotine Shots. As Sub-Ohm vapers usually vape at high power (wattage) using low nicotine, this creates the result most of these vapers are looking for as adding 18mg Nicotine shots to these bottles creates 60 or 120ml of 3mg E-liquid once mixed.
100% VG E-liquids are made with only VG and no PG. These are an excellent choice for vapers that has a PG intolerance. Yes, whilst most users will have no problem vaping PG, just like milk and gluten some people have an intolerance or even allergy to PG. Most 100% VG E-liquids that we sell are also Organic and made with natural flavour extracts.
