E-Liquids (or vape juices) are usually made up of 3 or 4 ingredients. The base of most E-Liquids comprises varying amounts of vegetable glycerine (VG), a thick substance which produces big vapour clouds, and propylene glycol (PG), an additive used to carry the flavour and thin the liquid. On top of their VG / PG base, E-Liquids generally contain natural and/or artificial flavourings as well as nicotine (unless you're buying a nicotine-free E-Liquid). As the market stands now, you are spoilt for choice—with thousands of flavour options to choose from, you'll never run out of new and exciting juices to try!

The different types of E-liquid are:

50/50 E-Liquids, which are made with freebase nicotine. These are great for new users as they are compatible with most basic starter vape kits and pod kits.

Nicotine Salts have seen a massive spike in popularity since 2019. Nic Salts are similar to 50/50 blends, with the added benefit of providing a quicker nicotine fix and a much smoother throat hit at higher nicotine strengths. These E-Liquids are best suited for current smokers or recent ex-smokers for use in starter vape kits and pod kits.

Shortfill E-Liquids are usually reserved for sub-ohm vapers and are typically formulated in higher VG blends, making them best suited for higher-wattage Advanced Vape Kits.

100% VG E-Liquids are made without any propylene glycol (PG), artificial flavours, or sweeteners. They are instead blended with organic, naturally extracted flavourings—perfect for vapers with a PG allergy or intolerance.

If you're unsure what type of E-liquid to buy, chances are you're new to vaping. For beginners, we recommend Nicotine Salts and/or 50/50 E-Liquids. Nicotine Salts are popular as they offer a smoother vape even at higher nicotine strengths, making it easier for smokers looking to make the switch to vaping. 50/50 E-liquids are a great choice as well, as they provide a good throat hit and works with most basic starter kits and pod kits. Everyone will have different nicotine tolerances and preferences, but generally, the answer to this question is dependent on how many cigarettes you smoke (or smoked) per day.

If you are (or were recently) a heavy smoker, we recommend a nicotine strength of either 12mg or 18mg if using traditional freebase 50/50 E-Liquids (for light or moderate smokers, 6mg is a great starting point). You may need to adjust your nicotine strength depending on your preference for throat hit.

Recent and current ex-smokers will enjoy Nic Salt E-liquids, as they look and work like 50/50 E-Liquids but provide a much smoother throat hit with a higher nicotine strength. With Nic Salts, we recommend starting at 20mg if you are a smoker looking to make the switch. Using too little nicotine when you first start to vape after quitting will most likely not satisfy your cravings, so we recommend going higher at the start and then weaning yourself down as your dependence on nicotine wanes over time.

Scientific research on vaping is still in its infancy, but the facts that we do have are very promising. Research conducted by various institutions—including government bodies, medical agencies, and charities like Cancer Research UK—says that vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking cigarettes. In addition, we know that E-Liquid doesn't contain the carcinogenic chemicals found in cigarette smoke, and there's no known link between vaping and cancer. "Passive vaping" (the equivalent of second-hand smoke) also poses no harm to those around you. What we know is that vaping is safer than smoking. In fact, switching from cigarettes to vaping completely has its own list of health benefits, including improvements to cardiovascular health in as little as one month. Any concerns you have about the safety of vaping should be addressed by your GP.
