Aegis One Review: GeekVape’s #1 Best MTL Kit
An honest, in-depth review of the new GeekVape Aegis One pod kit.
Note: This product has been discontinued. We have a large collection of current vape kits available.
GeekVape just premiered the first-ever pen-style vape with the Aegis line’s token sturdy build, and it’s definitely newsworthy. This is definitely my favourite MTL kit that I’ve used.
I’ve owned a number of vapes in my time, from hand-me-down mods to pens to pod kits. I used GeekVape’s Aegis Mini for nearly two years—which I bought for its shockproof build after losing my last kit to the mean, unforgiving pavement. I’ve always loved the sturdiness of GeekVape’s Aegis range, given my tendency to drop my belongings (and myself) on a semi-regular basis.
So, your favourite klutz has written an exhaustive, honest review of the new GeekVape Aegis One. Let’s get into it.

The Body
The Aegis One has a Zinc Alloy body, reinforced for extra durability, with a smooth grip for added comfort. GeekVape’s Aegis range has heretofore included mainly sub-ohm and DTL devices, so I was curious to see how the sturdy Aegis build would translate to a pen-style kit, and I wasn’t disappointed.
I’ve owned this kit now for just over two weeks, and I’ve dropped it at least a dozen times. Not once has the kit shown any sign of significant damage because of these falls. What I will say, however, is that a few times, upon dropping the kit, the mouthpiece popped off and skidded across the floor, leaving me with a small puddle of E-Liquid to wipe up. The flipside to this, of course, is that the mouthpiece isn’t as difficult to remove as those of some other kits out there, and I’m definitely thankful for that.
Beware that if you drop this kit, you may have to locate the pod or the mouthpiece, but neither the device nor the pods should break upon impact.
In addition—and this may only be the case for the specific finish that I got (rainbow)—the device is most definitely not scratch-proof. It’s already gotten some scratches just from being in my handbag (dropping it a dozen times also probably didn’t help).
The finish I got is also very prone to fingerprints, as you can see in this photo, just as most glossy metal kits are. This was taken while I was actively trying to dust the fingerprints off. As you can see, just placing it in front of the camera was enough to leave it looking dirty.
If you’re not too concerned about fingerprints, you can absolutely disregard this—because everything else about the kit makes it a real winner.
I promised honesty, didn’t I?
The Interface
The Aegis One has an LED indicator light, which indicates the battery level when firing: green is for high battery capacity, blue is for medium, and red is for low battery. When the light flashes red three times, the battery is dead and needs recharging.
The kit has a standard interface with a single button, which you press 5 times to power the device on and off. In addition, clicking the button three times in quick succession will change the power output level. There are three power output modes: green for high, blue for medium, and red for low. You can use any power output level regardless of the battery level.
The vape kit offers dual activation modes, with both automatic draw activation—where you simply inhale on the mouthpiece to fire—and button-firing. Personally, I don’t see the point of having both, given that I only tend to press the button either A, by accident, or B, to change the settings. I’d love to one day see a vape hardware brand debut a vape where the button is simply for changing settings. But this is a very nitpicky detail.
The interface is pretty self-explanatory, making this a great kit for beginners.
The Battery
One of the most exciting features of the Aegis One is its battery capacity; GeekVape themselves boast that the 780mAh internal battery should last most vapers two full days before needing a recharge.
Emphasis on the “most vapers” part.
I’m not most vapers (cue the “I’m not like other girls” memes). Most vapers aren’t allowed—let alone encouraged—to vape at work. So, of course I vape more than the average person, and that should be taken into account when it comes to battery and coil life.
If you’re a regular (read: constant) vaper like me, you’ll likely get about half a day’s worth of vaping out of each charge. That’s not too bad for a kit of this size and weight. I did have realistic expectations, especially given that my last pod kit (which had about half of this one’s battery capacity) only made it a couple of hours before needing a full recharge. Honestly, after that kit, this one’s battery feels massive in comparison.
Thankfully, the Aegis One charges quickly—in under an hour via the USB Type-C port located on the bottom—and it offers pass-through charging, so you can vape while it’s on charge.
I will note, however, that the vape can overheat if you use it while charging—at which point, the indicator light glows red and the vape automatically cuts off. This is a great safety feature, preventing overheating of the device, but it is a little disappointing when the power cuts.
The Pod & Coil
The pods for the Aegis One kit come in packs of three and feature a magnetic fitting and a snap-off mouthpiece with a simple top-fill design, as shown. The pods are truly a breeze to open—something I was nervous about after a friend once had to return a vape because the snap-fit mouthpiece just wouldn’t come off—and it’s super easy to refill, too.
Sometimes, when refilling, the pod tends to fill up on one side and not the other—easily rectified by giving the other hole on the top (the one next to the filling port) a quick wipe.
The GeekVape Aegis One replacement pods utilise integrated coils, which is great for those of us who want to avoid any messy coil changes. The pods come in two resistances, both suited to MTL vaping: 0.8Ω (ohm) and 1.2Ω (ohm). You’ll get one of each with the purchase of the kit, allowing you to experiment with both to find which one you prefer.
The differences are very minimal, but you may find that one better suits your needs—I personally found, after trying both, that the 0.8Ω pod offers more vapour (and therefore flavour).
Since getting the kit, I’ve bought more of the 0.8Ω pods. I think I’ll stick with those.
The 1.2Ω pod, I found, was great for Nic Salts, whereas the 0.8Ω pod made my standard 50/50 E-Liquids really shine. Again, the differences are minimal: you get slightly less vapour with the 1.2Ω pod. That’s about it.
The most notable thing about these pods is that the coils last me far longer than any other pod kit I’ve used. With my personal vaping style (and given how much I vape), I usually use up my pods within a few short days. Much of this can be put down to the sweetness of the E-Liquids I use and the fact that I tend to chain vape.
The Aegis One pods, on the other hand, last me at least 5-7 days. That’s a heck of a lot longer than I’m used to. The coils degrade very slowly, so you’ll know when they’re reaching the end of their road. For most vapers, these pods should last the full 2 weeks that they’re supposed to before needing to be replaced, which makes this kit even more cost-effective in the long run than I’d initially anticipated.
Flavour & Vapour Production
As with all MTL kits, the Aegis One delivers a more discreet amount of vapour than the DTL kits in the Aegis range, but what I really want to highlight here is the flavour.
By god, the flavour.
I’m not entirely sure how this kit delivers the amount of flavour that it does; the coils aren’t mesh, the wattage is standard for an MTL kit, and there’s nothing truly special or revolutionary about the vape pods or coils themselves.
Perhaps it’s the unique S-shaped airflow design, which was designed to provide a smoother MTL vape and a stronger throat-hit. Perhaps it’s the funnel-shaped mouthpiece, which delivers a mouthful of flavour through a narrow hole. Perhaps it’s something to do with the size of the wicking holes—which are somewhat larger than those of other pod kits, I’ve noticed.
Whatever it is, this vape delivers MTL flavour like no other I’ve tried. Even on its lowest setting, this vape makes the very most out of the flavour in every E-Liquid. It’s delicious.
I cannot emphasize enough how excellent the flavour production is on this kit!
What would I change about the Aegis One?
All in all, there really isn’t much I’d change about this device. Anything I suggest here would be to improve functionality or durability or to make it more universal to all MTL vapers.
These ideas are simply my personal opinion.
Now, what would I change about the Aegis One?
- Larger battery. I’m greedy, after all.
- Add some sort of mechanism to help keep the pieces together when the vape is dropped.
- Adjustable airflow—not for me, but for the pickier vapers out there. I’m perfectly happy with the static airflow amount, but some other vapers might prefer a looser draw.

Summary
I can’t stress enough how much I adore the Aegis One—even with its few (very minor) flaws. I’d even go so far as to say that this is GeekVape’s best ever MTL kit.
It boasts a sizable battery, deliciously flavourful pods, mess-free maintenance, and it’s accessible to beginners—something you can’t say about every device in the Aegis range.
The Aegis One will most definitely be my everyday kit for a while, at least until something greater comes along—but I have a feeling I’ll be using this one for a long time.
